About Us

About Paw to Hand

I enrolled in Certificate IV in Animal Behaviour and Training in June 2022 and completed the course in June 2023. In January 2023 my husband passed away, and my two dogs who have always had a companion at home were suddenly alone for up to 9 hours a day. The capacity to start my own business became a reality, and I finished up a teaching contract while going through the scary process of doing something different with my life.

As a teacher of 50 years and a former school principal, I have always loved working with learners. By starting Paw to Hand Dog Training, I am continuing my passion for helping others to learn new things, but I’ve moved on from adolescents to dogs and their carers (particularly their carers).

I have my own training area just out of Sorell, so perfectly situated for the Southern beaches area, Tasman Peninsula and the southern end of the East coast.  I am also willing to travel in the greater Hobart area to train your dog in its own environment if preferred.

I welcome one on one sessions and will be running small group classes starting later this year.

As the business name suggests, my training philosophy is very much based on building a strong relationship with your canine companion and working together to learn new things and have fun.

As a member of IMDT (Institute of Modern Dog Trainers) my training methods are based on positive reinforcement and are fear free

I have been an instructor with Eastern Shore Dog Club for 6 years and am an active participant, trialling in various disciplines (Obedience, Rally, Tracking and Agility/Jumping) with my own 2 dogs, Collie (left) and Monty (below) .  If you are interested in becoming involved in trialling with your dog, I’m the person to contact.

Our area of focus includes:

  • Making learning enjoyable for both your dog and you as their carer

FAQs

  • You can get in touch with Rosanne by using the contact form on this website. Alternatively, my phone number is also provided and you can message me through my FB page, Paw to Hand Dog Training.

  • If you are interested in one on one training you will first be asked to fill in questionnaire which provides me with basic important information about both you and your dog. I follow this up with a meeting with you and your dog at your home which gives me a clear picture of how your dog operates in the familiar environment.

  • This depends on your individual needs and goals. You will indicate what these are in your questionnaire responses. I build your program around these initially, and as we move forward, will suggest other possible training exercises as we build a learning relationship.

  • One on one sessions are personalised to meet the learners’ (dog and human) needs. Group classes are focused around topics - basic foundations for canine learning, loose leash walking, reliable recalls, and sometimes a combination of these.

  • At the moment I am engaged by Tasmanian Veterinary Hospitals in Bellerive to take their puppy classes. If there is a need here in the Southern Beaches and Sorell area for group puppy classes I would be perfectly happy to organise these.
